Lesbian Group Kontra held the protest action “Stop the Torture and Killings of Gay Men in Chechnya!” in front of the Embassy of the Russian Federation.
More than a hundred men were arrested for suspicion of being gay in Chechnya. They were tortured, beaten and forced to reveal information about other gay men. At least three men have been killed so far.
We demand that the authorities of the Russian Federation immediately investigate all the crimes and bring to justice all those responsible for the arrest, torture and murder of gay men in Chechnya.
The Embassy officer came out in front of the Embassy and didn’t want to receive a protest letter from the activists, but requested that the representative of Lesbian Group Kontra put it in the Embassy mailbox.
Activists held the banner “Stop torture and killings of gay men in Chechnya!” in Russian language and the rainbow flag in front of the Embassy.
